Jubilee performance in Worcester of a Concert Club commission

A Malvern Concert Club commission by local composer Ian Venables can be heard as part of a Platinum Jubilee Concert during next month’s Elgar Festival in Worcester. The world premiere of The Song of the Severn, his Op.43, for baritone, string quartet and piano was performed on 2nd May 2013 by our President, Roderick Williams, the Carducci Quartet and Tom Poster at Malvern Theatres. We are grateful to the Kay Trust for making this commission possible. The composer’s own orchestral arrangement will be performed by Marcus Farnsworth and the English Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kenneth Woods at 7.30pm in Worcester Cathedral on Saturday 4th June.

The other works in the concert are Vaughan Williams’s Festival Te Deum; Elgar’s The Spirit of England (for chorus, orchestra and soprano, April Fredrick); and finally his overture In The South.

Details – including booking tickets – can be found at elgarfestival.org. Or phone Worcester Theatres on 01905 611 427. Prices range from £5 to £28.
