Toby White

Born in Ripon, North Yorkshire, Toby enjoys a busy and varied career as both soloist and chamber musician. He completed his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the class of Louise Hopkins, graduating in 2019 with an Artist Diploma.

In January 2019 Toby was selected for the Tillett Young Artists Platform and made his Wigmore hall debut in October that year as part of the scheme. He continues to perform regularly as a recitalist and soloist throughout the UK. Highlights from last season include returning to his native North Yorkshire for a recital for the Darlington Music Society and performing at the Lichfield Festival, joining the European Union Chamber Orchestra for a performance of Haydn Cello Concerto No.1 at the Kings Lynn Festival and appearing at the North York Moors Chamber Music summer festival with the Jubilee Quartet, of which he has been a member since 2017.

Toby has been a grateful recipient of many awards throughout his young career including the Help Musicians UK Fleming Award and grants from the Pierre Fournier and Leverhulme Trusts. Toby was the holder of the Karl Motesiczky Scholarship from 2017 to 2019 and was a Worshipful Company of Musicians award holder in 2017-18.

Toby plays on a modern cello made by Paul Collins c.2013.
