The Amatis Piano Trio was founded in 2014 by German violinist Lea Hausmann, British cellist Samuel Shepherd and Dutch/Chinese pianist Mengjie Han.

Only weeks after forming, the Trio won the audience prize at the Grachtenfestival Concours in Amsterdam which quickly led to their debut at the Royal Concertgebouw and concert engagements throughout the Netherlands.

Most recently they were awarded 1st Trio at the International Joseph Joachim Competition in Weimar, Germany and named Dutch Classical Talent 2016. Soon afterwards, they were selected as BBC New Generation Artists 2016/2018.

This young international trio has since emerged as one of the leading piano trios among the new generation, receiving enthusiastic responses from audiences and critics across the UK, Europe and Asia. For the 2018/2019 season, the Trio were selected as ECHO Rising Stars by the European Concert Hall organisation, following their nomination by the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Konzerthaus Dortmund and the Philharmonic Cologne, which will see them perform in 23 of the most prestigious concert venues in Europe.

The Amatis Piano Trio is committed to contemporary music and founded the ‘Dutch Piano Trio Competition’ prize in 2015, encouraging young composers to further the piano trio repertoire. Since 2015 they have worked intensively with Wolfgang Redik, (Vienna Piano Trio) and Rainer Schmidt, (Hagen Quartet) and are currently enrolled in the Piano Trio Master Studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.

‘The Amatis Piano Trio is an outstanding ensemble on their way to establishing a great international career.’ (Daniel Hope, Beaux Arts Trio)
