Malvern WR14 3DR
President’s Sunday Afternoon Schubert Cycle Series 2017-19
Roderick Williams baritone
Iain Burnside piano
Schubert Die schöne Müllerin, D.795
Already respected and much-loved in musical circles for his wide repertoire – from baroque to contemporary music, in the opera house, on the concert platform and in recital – his performance in the Last Night of the Proms in 2014 brought the magic of Roderick Williams to a new worldwide audience. Over the past few years he has sung to Club audiences three times, in widely ranging repertoire.
Interweaving roles as pianist and Sony Award-winning broadcaster with equal aplomb, Iain Burnside is also a master programmer with an instinct for the telling juxtaposition. He has performed in recital with many of the world’s leading singers. His recordings straddle an exuberantly eclectic repertoire, with a special place reserved for the highways and byways of English Song, as his acclaimed recordings have all proved. He has written and devised a number of highly individual theatre pieces. Recently he returned to the Oxford and Leeds Lieder Festivals and the Cheltenham Music Festival.
In 2015 Roderick Williams and Iain Burnside re-collaborated to give recitals in Brazil, and they are now embarking on their series of Schubert’s three major song cycles, which they will perform for the Club on February Sunday afternoons over three years.
